The NBA world erupts when the Lakers select Bronny James, making history. The Los Angeles Lakers are not expected to sign Sam Cassell, Jared Dudley, Terry Stotts, James Borrego, or other players, according to league sources and others with direct knowledge of the situation.
Kevin Garnett joins the chorus of those who believe Magic Johnson hooked up with Jeanie Buss when he was a teenager.

Phil Handy is not very likely either. The Lakers are more inclined to explore having him return, however there are rumors that he was not pleased about not being given the chance to be head coach the previous two times.

As they try to surround new head coach JJ Redick with as much expertise as possible, sources claim the Lakers have moved on to prospects lower on their first list, such Jacque Vaughn and Dwane Casey, while still keeping Scott Brooks in mind.

According to league insiders, Borrego was the clear choice to become head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers, but at the last minute, Dan Gilbert intervened and overruled his front office to select Kenny Atkinson. After losing out on the Lakers and Cavaliers positions, Borrego focused on the Detroit Pistons. However, he chose to withdraw from consideration and will now continue as associate head coach with the New Orleans Pelicans, according to sources.

Dudley is an important component of the coaching staff that guided the Dallas Mavericks to the Western Conference Finals. According to reports, Sean Sweeney has a strong chance of becoming Detroit’s head coach, and if he succeeds, Dudley would likely get promoted. Dudley is probably going to stay in Dallas, where he has a more secure employment than he does with the Lakers, even if Sweeney decides to come back.

With Jeff Van Gundy going to be Tyronn Lue’s primary assistant with the Los Angeles Clippers and Charles Lee leaving to coach the Charlotte Hornets, Cassell is also expected to get promoted in Boston. Following a championship season, Cassell would join Joe Mazzulla as Boston’s primary assistant. He’ll probably be one of the most sought-after candidates for head coach the following season.

According to ESPN, Casey, who works as a front office advisor in Detroit, was contacted by the Lakers. According to sources, Casey has previously declined a chance to join the Chicago Bulls as Billy Donovan’s primary assistant. Los Angeles would love to have him as Redick’s primary assistant and would hope he changes his mind at this point.

The Lakers reportedly offered Stotts a position on both Frank Vogel’s and Darvin Ham’s coaching staffs, but he turned them down. Pelinka might give it another go, but it doesn’t seem likely that Stotts would think it was a charm the third time.

According to reports, Brooks is still a possibility for the Lakers because of his prior superstar talent collaboration expertise. Redick and Rob Pelinka started out with the goal of maybe adding two or more previous head coaches on their staff. As of right moment, Vaughn, Casey, and Brooks seem to be the most likely choices in that sense.

Redick’s staff has also discussed Rajon Rondo as a potential addition, but insiders claim the Lakers are divided on the player. LeBron James and Anthony Davis would both enjoy having him back in the locker room, despite his volatile nature and associated legal troubles.

Additionally, sources claim that the Lakers would be very interested in Chris Paul if he were to become a free agency. Though Paul and Rondo are still in love, some in the Lakers organization would prefer that their rookie coach not worry about their relationship on top of everything else that comes with learning on the fly, even though both are regarded as professional enough to work together.

According to sources, Miles Simon and Greg St. Jean might rejoin the team during the offseason. Vogel oversaw both of them throughout his tenure. In addition, Simon coached the South Bay Lakers and collaborated with Luke Walton’s coaching staff. Simon especially makes a lot of sense considering the franchise’s emphasis on development.

In order to get top assistant coaches to come to Los Angeles, the Lakers had to overcome two significant obstacles: Firstly, their pay reputation isn’t the finest, and it doesn’t keep up with the rising cost of living in Southern California. The Lakers are seen as being below average in this area when compared to the majority of other teams.

Their recent past with head coaches has played a significant role in this process as well. After Phil Jackson left the sidelines 13 years ago, Redick is the fifth head coach in that time. Mike Brown has publicly expressed his remorse for accepting the Lakers offer at that time.
