Aston Villa have had a £50 million bid accepted by Everton for midfielder Amadou Onana. The 22-year-old Belgian, who joined Everton two years ago for a fee that could rise to £30 million, is also attracting interest from other clubs.
Despite this, Villa have met Everton’s valuation, which could make Onana the club’s replacement for Douglas Luiz, recently sold to Juventus.
If the deal proceeds, Onana would become Villa’s second-biggest purchase, following Moussa Diaby’s acquisition last year for up to £51.9 million.
For Everton, this sale would rank as their third most expensive, behind Romelu Lukaku’s move to Manchester United and Richarlison’s transfer to Tottenham.
Additionally, the sale would generate a profit for Everton, despite Lille holding a sell-on clause, and could improve their chances of retaining Manchester United target Jarrad Branthwaite if they secure another significant sale this summer.
Villa have already strengthened their midfield this summer with the signing of Tim Iroegbunam from their own ranks, hinting at a strategic build-up for the coming season.
Other notable signings include Lewis Dobbin from Everton, Samuel Iling-Junior, and Enzo Barrenechea from Juventus, as well as Ian Maatsen from Chelsea and Ross Barkley from Luton. Philippe Coutinho has been loaned to Vasco da Gama.
Meanwhile, Everton and Tottenham continue discussions regarding an amended agreement for Dele Alli. Under the terms of Alli’s January 2022 move, Everton were obliged to pay Spurs £10 million upon his 20th appearance.
Dele has been stuck on 13 appearances over the last two seasons, having spent 2022-23 on loan at Besiktas and missing the entirety of the last campaign due to injury and other issues. Everton remain open to keeping Dele and attempting to rebuild his career, provided a new deal can be reached.
