The two biggest cap hits on the team are wide receiver Courtland Sutton and left tackle Garrett Bolles, with defensive lineman D.J. Jones following closely behind. The Broncos lack a clear suitable alternative for Bolles, thus they need him. Similarly, Jones has few real competitors for his position.
But this season, Sutton is a part of a deeper wide receiver group, and Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report proposes a move that may lessen the blow of a trade for the Broncos.
On June 27, Knox said, “Denver isn’t looking to trade Sutton, but that could change if the right offer comes along.” In this fictitious scenario, the 24-year-old receiver Tutu Atwell and two third-round picks are exchanged for Sutton, who hasn’t had a 1,000-yard season since 2019.

Sutton had a career-high 10 touchdowns and 772 yards at the end of the previous campaign. His 2020 ACL tear left him with a few minor injuries to deal with. Additionally, he has only had one season with 1,000 yards.
Knox cites Sutton’s age—he turns 29 in October—as well as his remarks against former Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson as justifications for Denver to let go.
