Dan Hurley Have Conclude an Agreement With Lakers as Their New Head Coach On Thursday morning, a shocking rumor involving the Los Angeles Lakers’ hunt for a head coach surfaced.
The Lakers were reportedly putting together a “massive, long-term offer” to convince Connecticut head coach Dan Hurley to quit the NCAA and join the NBA, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
This occurs fewer than a day after Shams Charania of The Athletic revealed thate JJ Rdick was the “frontrunner” for the head coaching position in Los Angeles.
Redick and Hurley don’t have any professional coaching experience, although Hurley has far more than Redick. Hurley’s announcement may be finalized in the next few days, but any news involving Redick would have to wait until after the NBA Finals as he is the one who announces them for ESPN.

Hurley, fifty-one, was born in 1973 in Jersey City, New Jersey. His brother Bobby Hurley is the head coach at Arizona State University, and his father Bob Hurley Sr. was a Hall of Fame high school basketball coach.
Hurley attended St. Anthony High School and played basketball for his father prior to competing for Seton Hall University at the collegiate level. Upon completing his senior year, he promptly embarked on a coaching career.
Hurley worked as an assistant at his former school, St. Anthony High School, during the 1996–1997 season. He began working as an assistant at Rutgers University in 1997 and remained there till 2001.

- Hurley was hired as the head coach at Saint Benedict’s Prep School in 2001 and stayed there until 2010. After that, he was hired as Wagner College’s head coach for the first time at the collegiate level, when he set the school record most wins and losses in a single season with 25-6.
Hurley left Wagner to spend six seasons at the University of Rhode Island, where he led the team to the NCAA Tournament in his last two years there.
Hurley was appointed head coach of the University of Connecticut on March 22, 2018. He guided them to the NCAA Tournament in 2021 and 2022. And he guided them to consecutive NCAA Tournament victories in 2023 and 2024.
Hurley guided the Huskies to a shocking run in the NCAA Tournament in 2022–2023 as a No. 4 seed, defeating the San Diego State Aztecs, ranked No. 5, in the National Title game. The Huskies were far more dominant in the 2023–24 season, setting a school record with 37 wins to secure the top overall seed in the NCAA Tournament.
