Towards the end of the first round, James Jones and Mat Ishbia, I believe, were certain that either Ryan Dunn or Tyler Kolek would still be available. The Suns selected Ryan Dunn, a defensive monster out of the University of Virginia, with the 28th choice overall.

I personally heard from sources heading into the second round that Phoenix would either advance to the top half of the round or make another trade back. Gerald Bourguet, the lead writer for PHNX Sports, also reported on this. Additionally, sources informed me that Phoenix intended to select a big man in the second round rather than a point guard, as the majority of the supporters had requested.

Phoenix (acquired via trade from Denver) had picked 56 heading into the second round. To draft Marquette guard Tyler Kolek, many fans were hoping the Suns would move up early in the second round. They did, in fact, have different intentions, as Kolek was traded to New York after Portland selected him at pick 34.
