Along with center partner Kotoni Staggs, Cobbo is off-contract at the end of the 2025 NRL season. He may begin negotiating with opposing clubs on November 1 and is expected to be one of the biggest free agents at the beginning of the 2026 campaign.
It’s known that a number of teams, notably the Sydney Roosters—who will be losing Joseph Manu and Joseph Suaalii to rugby union—have already expressed interest in hiring him.
“An inferior team, not the Broncos, could throw seven figures at him and declare, ‘We want you to lead us,” Parker stated on SENQ Mornings.
“(Being a fullback has) brought him back into focus in the shop. Given that Cobbo is a fullback, I fail to see how they could keep those players for the kind of money that he would fetch on the open market.
“I understand he’s content at the Broncos and wants to play center, but money has an odd way of doing strange things.”
Cobbo’s versatility and ability to play anywhere in the backline are what give him worth, according to Corey Parker, who likened him to Sydney Roosters player Joseph Manu.
Cobbo moved from the wing to the centres this season, averaging 139 running metres per game, 5.6 tackle busts, and even a chance to be called up to the Queensland Maroons for the State of Origin.
Parker described him as Brisbane’s equivalent of Joey Manu.
“You give him a chance, and he performs admirably—he has a high participation rate, for example. He returns to the center, and the question is, “How can we get Cobbo to get the ball again?”
