After a string of tough games, the Tigers gave home supporters something to rejoice about last week. They won their first series in recent weeks, taking two of three from the Chicago White Sox, but then lost two of three to the Philadelphia Phillies before moving west. Detroit is on track for its worst month of the 2024 season, going 9-14 so far in June. They are fourth in the American League Central, 15 games behind the Cleveland Guardians for first place and six back of the Kansas City Royals for the last Wild Card position.

Since losing Shohei Ohtani, the Angels have not improved in the slightest. Even with a talent like Mike Trout, the Angels remain toward the bottom of the AL West standings. They’ve been playing good lately, winning three of their last four games and sweeping the Oakland Athletics earlier this week. The Angels sit fourth in the West, 11 games back of the first-place Seattle Mariners and 9.5 behind the Royals. Last year, the Bengals and Halos clashed six times, with each side winning three games.

England’s Phil Foden leaves Euros for birth of child. Kennedy, 25, spent eight days with the Tigers after being called up from Toledo to replace injured infielder Gio Urshela in late April. He went 2-for-10 with a home run, four RBIs, two walks, and four strikeouts over six games. He was hitting.234 with a.714 OPS in 39 games (163 plate appearances) for the Mud Hens. The Arizona Diamondbacks drafted Kennedy in the fifth round out of high school in 2017. He made it to the big leagues and played briefly in each of the previous two seasons before getting placed on waivers last September. He was claimed by the Oakland Athletics, followed by the St. Louis Cardinals a month later. Kennedy stayed on the Cardinals’ roster until February, when St. Louis added veteran baseman Brandon Crawford. On February 29, the Tigers claimed him, replacing Andre Lipcius, who was designated for assignment and later traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
