Toronto Maple Leaf head coach Sheldon Keefe has announced his retirement due to.

As of my last update, Sheldon Keefe is the head coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs, and I don’t have information on any retirement announcements. If you’re asking hypothetically, I can help with that. This may sound insane, but Toronto Maple Leafs fans should wish that the team misses the playoffs next year in order to bring about meaningful reform. After re-signing William Nylander, the Toronto Maple Leafs now have four of the top twelve highest-paid players in the league. Sam Reinhart, a 57-goal scorer, is the 46th highest paid player, with John Tavares, Mitch Marner, and William Nylander earning $2 million more than him. After the 2024-25 season, the Leafs will have $22 million in cap space, when Tavares and Marner’s contracts expire. That is a lot of money to be able to overhaul the squad, but if the Leafs are contenders next year, change may not happen. In fact, if the Leafs manage to pass If they advance past the First Round and reach the Eastern Conference Finals, or better still, the Stanley Cup Finals, Marner and Tavares will be re-signed.

As much as I have admired and appreciated these players’ contributions to the Leafs, both are unable to return. Even when the team isn’t good and loses in the first round, they keep bringing back the same players, thus the only way change will occur is if they don’t make the playoffs at all. I know that sounds like a crazy statement, but it’s true. The organisation has showed its followers that it does not want to go wild and would rather have a good regular season club than try a new way. Marner and Tavares have no-move clauses, so getting them out of town was easier said than done, but they should have done everything they could to make it happen. By never making changes, it conveys to the gamers that everything is good. Hiring Craig Berube may transform the locker room, but until the players change, I’m not sure anything will happen. I was hoping for a major splash or change through trade or free agency, but the Leafs will remain the same.

The same squad that has lost three times in eight years to the Boston Bruins and allowed the Montreal Canadiens to win a playoff series after trailing 3-1. This bunch of players cannot win in Toronto, but management is unconcerned, therefore nothing will change until they are eliminated from the playoffs. As a result, I genuinely hope they miss the playoffs so that true change and a new group can develop.
